So far we've been doing really great on our paperwork. We've got most of it finished, or waiting to be notarized, and the rest should be arriving in the mail soon.
Except for those background checks!
Throughout this adoption, we have had to submit fingerprints to DCFS, Citizenship and Immigration, the FBI, and the state police. (Getting a background check for the state police is a new requirement; EAC includes it as part of the dossier but Gladney did not.)
We thought we were doing pretty good when we submitted fingerprints to the FBI right away because those take approximately 8-10 weeks to be completed...and that's if your fingerprints are not rejected. (Drew's were not accepted last time, so we had to do his all over again.) On Friday, we were so excited when our prints were processed much quicker and arrived in the mail! And- we both passed this time! :)
Unfortunately, we also found out that BOTH of our prints were rejected by the state police. So I talked with a not-so-helpful customer service representative and she did let me know that they would accept new prints electronically. We just went to get those today during Drew's lunch break and hopefully they will pass this time. Who would have ever thought that having our fingerprints read would have been the most challenging part of compiling a dossier? :)
